Our philosophy is for you, the patient, to have an educational, yet fun breast consultation. Here is what you can expect at A New You:

1: A discussion of your medical history.

First, you will meet with Dr. Shah’s assistant. Together, you will discuss your medical history and review any medical conditions you or your family may have. You will fill out a breast health questionnaire and discuss your breast enhancement desires.

2: An open conversation with Dr. Shah: What will be discussed?

You will then have an in-depth consultation with Dr. Shah. While we have a structure of providing information, the process is still fluid and tailored to the patient’s specific concerns. In general, we cover the implants type choices, how to approach sizing, and review some potential issues with implants. We also review the list of dos and don’ts after surgery.

It’s normal to be nervous about surgery, so if you have questions for Dr. Shah, you may actually forget them while you are in the meeting. We have found that it’s best to make a list of your questions ahead of time and bring the list with you to your appointment, so you don’t forget anything. Of course, you can always call us later with your forgotten question!

Once the discussion is finished, we proceed to the physical exam, followed by taking pictures.

3: Physical exam: Measurements? Determining if a breast lift is also needed.

There are several key body measurements that Dr. Shah will need to take. He will use the data to determine optimal implant volume. He will measure, with specially designed calipers, the width of the breast, position of the nipples, and overall skin stretch.

These measurements will provide a foundation for implant volume choice, as well as the need for breast lift/skin tightening procedures. Having different shaped breasts is very common, and often it’s subtle.

4: How is my breast implant size range determined?

We have external sizers that patients will use in a bra to help determine the added volume. The sizers are meant to give an estimate of the new look, but also get a sense of the new “weight” of the implants. We want patients to feel comfortable, ensuring that the implants are not too heavy for their frame and that they will be able to carry out their desired level of physical activity.

There is an exhaustive catalog of implant styles from low to extra high profile, and from traditional saline to extra cohesive gels. Dr. Shah will help navigate through all those choices to determine the best fit for the patient. His goal is to give you a natural yet full look. If women want a more exaggerated obvious augmentation, we can also help create that look.

There may be situations where Dr. Shah may recommend soft tissue support, known as resorbable mesh, to help stabilize the implant pocket.

5: Will I be able to see what my potential result may look like?

We have the added benefit of 3D technology where Dr. Shah can simulate the desired results on your own body. We have a wealth of before and after photos on our website and social media so you can get a general sense of the outcomes and how the scars heal. However, patients love to see the possible results on themselves, so the 3D imaging also helps to determine how breast lifts can enhance the augmentation outcome and also review asymmetries.
