There is an increasing interest from males to seek aesthetic surgery. Oftentimes, we hear the term “dad bod” which refers to men, typically fathers, who have made lifestyle choices that have allowed their bodies to shift. While men do not experience the true physical changes that women endure during childbirth, men may experience “sympathy weight gain. A Daddy do-over may be able to help men who are bothered by their dreaded Dad bod.
What Is A Dad Bod?
A Dad bod is slang for men with a body type typical of an average Dad. Usually, it’s in reference to middle-aged men, with a pooching abdomen and fuller chest that makes them look less physically fit. Many men try to work out and control diet, but oftentimes fatherhood leads to sleep deprivation, and the demand for childcare limits their ability to maintain a workout schedule and eat healthy. While some men will embrace the softer physical appearance, many men will want improvement.
What Is A Daddy Do-Over?
The term “daddy do-over” has similarities to the female counterpart “mommy makeover”. It is a moniker used to open the door for men to seek rejuvenative procedures. In our experience at A New You Plastic Surgery & Laser Center, the most common areas that men choose are the abdomen and chest. The expectation is that patients optimize their health and diet prior to requesting surgery. During a consultation with Dr. Shah, he will examine the areas and develop a customized treatment plan.
What Procedures Are Popular For A Daddy Do-Over?
The most popular procedures are directed to reshape the midsection and chest. Typically, procedures involve liposuction of the abdomen and the love handles. If the men are more physically fit, we can perform abdominal etching or high-definition liposuction. In this procedure, the underlying muscle is highlighted to create a more sculpted body.
Many men are also troubled by the chest or better known as “man boobs”, and we remove breast tissue, known as gynecomastia surgery.
If there is loose skin, a male tummy tuck can be performed. This is slightly different from a female tummy tuck as the muscle separation is not present, and therefore does not need to be tightened. We place the scars low, in the groin crease or pubic hairline, so that men can wear underwear or swimsuit shorts without revealing the scars.
Can A Daddy Do-Over Be Non-Surgical Or Minimally Invasive?
Some men just need some facial fillers or wrinkle reduction procedures to help them get over the hump and make them feel the way did when they were in their twenties. There are other medspa-related procedures such as chemical peels, skin care, and microneedling, that will help tighten skin. Rejuvenating the face could bolster self-esteem, which may have the added benefit of making them move more, which helps with weight loss.
We can also provide noninvasive fat reduction and muscle tightening with machine-based technology for patients with small amounts of stubborn areas. It is always best to have a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. Samir Shah.
What Is The Downtime After A Daddy Do-Over?
The average downtime is a few weeks which is standard for most surgeries. If the procedures are combined or more complex such as skin removal with liposuction, then downtime can be longer, but usually by six weeks most healing is completed. It is at that point that patients can return to the gym.
Both men and women should feel comfortable in their skin. There is an expectation that patients make every attempt to have a healthy diet and some exercise routine, as cosmetic procedures are not replacements for these. These rejuvenative procedures have been enormously satisfying for our patients.
