Rhinoplasty
is a procedure that changes the size and shape of the nose, either by
increasing or decreasing the bridge, changing the angle, narrowing the
nostrils or reshaping the tip. Although many seek a rhinoplasty to
simply change the shape of their nose, others may choose the surgery
after a facial injury or to help relieve nasal obstructions. When
having surgery to correct such a functional problem, medical insurance
may cover a part or all of the surgical costs. The surgery is usually
done from within the nostrils so there are no visible scars.
The
goal is to achieve a natural appearance without a "turned
up" or artificial look. Patients come to A New You the morning of
surgery for this outpatient procedure. Surgery takes about one and a
half hours to perform. Local or general anesthesia can be used. A
small splint is applied to the nose after surgery for protection and
to reduce swelling in the early post-operative period. This splint is
usually removed between five to seven days after surgery. The amount
of bruising is variable.
